"More than a Plane Ticket: Leading a Project Overseas"

As project managers, we have an easily transferable skill.  All sorts of projects in all sorts of places need the skills, discipline and leadership that we have to offer.  And we all have learned, the most successful projects are the ones where we can keep transparency and predictability as high as possible.  But what happens when what people are looking for shapes the transparency, and when what people are expecting, shapes the predictability?  If we know that departments in the same city have cultural differences, imagine how different it is working 10,000 kilometers away in a place with thousands of years of different history, and probably even a different native language.  You can't cross that divide with just an airplane ticket.
