Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) Practices in The Workplace
"What is your organization doing to improve equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI)?
Well, Canada still has work to do! Despite the fact that many companies have paid more attention to EDI in recent years, there is still plenty of room for improvement. Join us to learn more about the current situation of inclusivity and diversity in Canada. In addition, learn how to best apply EDI best practices in the workplace. The session will follow the topics below:
- Inclusion and diversity in Canada
- Being aware of unconscious biases
- Working on organizational culture
- Assessing company policies
- Diversity in the selection process
- Tracking diversity and inclusion indicators and metrics
- Come prepared to share your insights and contribute to the case studies.
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand the current situation in Canada regarding EDI.
2. Identify and challenge implicit biases and inherited assumptions.
3. Participants will learn and apply communication tools to better practice concepts of diversity, inclusion and equity.

Speaker bio
Maria De Lima is a passionate inclusion coach and marketing professional dedicated to making a difference in Kingston's community. She is a marketing professional with 2,5 years of experience and an inclusion coach for over 3 years.
Motivated by her passion for helping others, in 2023, Maria has set her sights on pursuing a career as a psychologist at Queen's University under the Bachelor of Arts and Science. Her goal is to make a meaningful impact on Black Peoples, Indigenous Peoples, and People(s) of Colour's (BIPOC's) well-being. Over the years, Maria has had the privilege of working with numerous companies in the Kingston area, including esteemed organizations such as the City of Kingston, Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, Kingston Economic Development Corporation, and many more. By providing these services and trainings, she has helped individuals and teams navigate the complexities of diverse cultures in the workplace, promoting effective communication, collaboration, and appreciation for differences. Finally, as a visible minority, Maria personally understands the unique challenges faced by individuals in similar circumstances. Drawing from their own experiences, she also offers valuable insights and guidance to empower others facing similar obstacles. Through her work, Maria strives to provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
