April 2017 Lunch Event

Topic: Adding a New Campaign to a Non-Profit Charity

Whether it’s mobilizing resources to support an influx of refugees, building an awareness campaign for the Fentanyl crisis, or mobilizing millennials around mental health issues, the strategies and tactics required to cut through the static of thousands of competing non-profit messages has been Adam Smith’s focus for over a decade.

Come and listen as Adam brings insight into the process of building new programs and converting the attention of the public into tangible action. Adam will give us a behind the scenes look at the discussions, business considerations and decision-making processes required to launch a new campaign in today’s highly competitive non-profit sector.

Presenter: Adam J. Smith - Management Consultant and former VP of United Way Ottawa

For 15 years Adam J. Smith has held executive positions for some of Canada’s biggest brands in the financial, political and charitable sectors. In January 2017, he launched a new consulting practice in Ottawa.

Adam was Vice-President, Marketing and Communications for United Way Centraide Ottawa. He oversaw a significant transformation of the organization’s brand, marketing and digital engagement capabilities, all with very strong results.

In 2006, Adam began working for the Liberal Party of Canada and became National Director of the Liberal Fund. During his tenure, the organization benefited from a major overhaul of its technology infrastructure, and realized significant growth in revenues and number of donors. Adam’s most recent political involvement was as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's principal national fundraiser during his leadership campaign.

Adam's community work is focused on the Shepherds of Good Hope where he recently completed his term as Chair of the Board of Directors. He continues to serve on its Governance Committee and is a founding member of the Shepherds Foundation.

Adam holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa. In 2012, he completed a Masters Certificate in Project Management through the Sprott School of Business and achieved his professional project management designation (PMP).

His primary professional goal is to build high-performing teams that help organization's overcome their most complex challenges.
