Lunch & Learn: Kanban in Stealth Mode
Lunch & Learn: Kanban in Stealth Node
As an agile specialist with a great and long-lasting affection for and knowledge about Kanban, it is next to impossible to work in SAFe (and Scrum) environments without attempting to sneak in a few Kanban practices. Experience shows that it will almost automatically lead to improvements, and isn’t that what most people are looking for?
The answer should of course be a big “yes”, but it is not all that simple. Many organizations have invested heavily in SAFe implementations and in creating a new SAFe identity. They are not necessarily tempted to say openly that they did not get the improvements that they were expecting, and therefore need to look in a different direction. They will not necessarily be positive to the simplicity of Kanban when they have bought into the high complexity of SAFe.
This presents you (the consultant or coach) with a few dilemmas. E.g., you know that introducing a bit of good Kanban practice will improve things, but is it acceptable when your client has chosen a different path?
In my presentation I will discuss some of the dilemmas you face as an agile consultant, and how pragmatism can help overcome them. I will also share my thoughts about why people stubbornly cling too long to poor choices, and how you can avoid it.
I will also share some of the agile biases I often meet. In fact, the very same biases that often makes it necessary to work with Kanban in stealth mode
Learning Outcomes

- Why it can sometimes be necessary to work with Kanban in stealth mode instead of being fully transparent
- What are the dilemmas you often face as an agile coach, and how to handle them?
