In this session, we will first discuss the changing role of the project manager and some trends that are driving it. Next, we will be sharing some of the skills we have gained from our professional experiences and from our participation in leadership development programs at work and through PMI. These are skills that today's project managers need to add to their toolkit to successfully transition from project manager to a true project leader.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) discuss the trends that are changing the role of the traditional project manager;(2) identify the leadership skills the modern project manager needs to transition to a true project leader.
Presenter: Nara Acharya - Assistant Director in Client Technology – Global Assurance - Ernst and Young
Nara Acharya is an assistant director in client technology – global assurance at Ernst and Young, a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services. He has over 20 years of experience in information technology, with a broad background in project/program management, technology consulting, systems integration, and software development. Mr. Acharya has worked in the telecommunications, financial services, healthcare, and retail industries, and has extensive client-facing experience leading and managing cross-functional, geographically distributed teams.He has been an active member of the PMI Atlanta Chapter since 2009 and is currently the past chair on the chapter's executive board. He was a member of the 2017 PMI Leadership Institute Master Class, which is a year-long global program for individuals interested in honing specific leadership and management skills and committed to applying this knowledge for the betterment of PMI, their chapter, and the project management profession. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Bangalore University, Bangalore, India, and a master's degree in systems science from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. In his spare time, he volunteers with his sons' Boy Scouts Troop, his employer's community service activities, and follows LSU sports. A metro Atlanta resident since 1996, he lives with his wife and twin boys in Alpharetta, GA.
